The M Performance side skirts emphasize the sporty appearance of the vehicle. Compared to the standard series, they offer a unique and clear possibility of differentiation thanks to their high-quality visible carbon fiber design. The inserts were developed specifically for the indicated vehicle series and are 100% fit. The shape and design of the side skirts are perfectly matched to the geometry and appearance of the vehicle and are coordinated with all other M Performance parts.
After several tests, the M Performance side skirts were approved according to the strict quality standards of the BMW Group. All legal requirements are met in the process. A specific registration with the TÜV or a general operating authorization (ABE) is not necessary, as the inserts are already approved with the complete vehicle or are mentioned in the EC operating permit.
Material information: The skirt inserts are made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFK, Carbon) and are sealed with clear lacquer. The material is resistant to UV rays, temperature and water. The carbon components are manufactured by hand. The cutting and arrangement of the fabric layers, the curing process of the plastic matrix and the milling of the raw parts takes several hours. A particular challenge is the subsequent lacquering. To enhance the unmistakable depth effect of the carbon fabric, the pieces are lacquered several times. Each coat of lacquer must be dried and then sanded. After applying the final coat of lacquer, the carbon part is polished to a high shine (except porous carbon versions). The carbon parts are graded according to current BMW standards. Only in this way can it be guaranteed that the high requirements regarding resistance to aging and temperature are met without the formation of cracks or detachment of the lacquer from the substrate, avoiding yellowing of the matrix. This high degree of manual work and grading effort is responsible for the price.
